Dr. Brunett joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1994. He has been instrumental in creating the Education Research and Global Health Fellowships at OHSU and has expanded his program's use of evidence-based medicine and medical simulation as educational tools. His interests include bedside teaching, curriculum development and simulation. In his free time he enjoys music of all kinds and plays the piano, mandolin and ukulele. He also enjoys literature and poetry and believes strongly in universal access to health care.

Dr. Deiorio joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2000. She currently is a Professor for the Department of Emergency Medicine. She is the Co-Director of the Emergency Medicine Education Section and also serves as the Director of Medical Student Education. Her academic interests include education research, especially the residency selection process, and informed consent. In her free time she enjoys reading, knitting, running, and supporting the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dr. Horowitz joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1997. He is currently a Professor and serves as a Medical Director for the Oregon, Alaska and Guam Poison Centers. His academic interests include toxicology, botulism, and medical history.

Dr. John Ma serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the Professional Board for OHSU Healthcare. Dr. Ma also served as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Missouri/Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, where he had been Vice Chair since 2000. Upon graduation from residency, he joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He has served as an editor on 16 textbooks, including Ma and Mateer's Emergency Ultrasound (all 3 editions) and Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide, 7th and 8th editions.

Dr. John Moorhead joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1978. During his 30 plus years in the department he has held many positions including Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency program for 13 years and Chair of the department for 6 years. His special interests include administration, trauma services, medical education and health policy. In his free time he enjoys playing hockey and golf.

Dr. Warden joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1996. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Global Mission Readiness in Clackamas, the Oregon State Urban Search & Rescue Task Force 1 (OR TF-1), Clackamas County (CCOM) Emergency Medical Dispatch and Clackamas County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council. Dr. Warden is an accomplished author, educator, former paramedic and innovator. Because of Dr Warden's leadership, the paramedics and EMT's with Clackamas Fire District #1 have embraced participation in a national study on cardiac resuscitation, resulting in some of the highest cardiac arrest "save to alive" at discharge percentages in the country. He also implemented the use of a rescue airway as an option for paramedics to secure an airway while performing CPR, now being considered as the standard for Cardiac Arrest care in the Portland Metropolitan area.

Dr. Cloutier joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2001 following his Emergency Medicine Residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and his Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. Prior to becoming Fellowship Co-Director he started the Clinical Research Investigative Studies Program (CRISP); an undergraduate academic associate program that has facilitated numerous prospective studies in the Emergency Department since 2004. He has earned his Masters Degree in Clinical Research from OHSU and has become a core member of the teaching faculty for the Human Investigations Program that all PEM Fellows are encouraged to participate in. From 2007 he has served as the Director of the Emergency Medicine Simulation Program. During that time he developed numerous pediatric centered didactic sessions and curricula for a wide variety of learners from pre-hospital personnel to nurse and physician. He is dedicated to Pediatric Emergency Medicine education and finding novel means of training all providers charged with the care of children independent of training. Dr. Cloutier is also a graduate of the McMaster Evidence Based Medicine Program, the ACEP Teaching Fellowship and serves on the ABEM Subboard for Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He is also an Associate Editor for the 6th Edition of Harwood and Nuss's Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Cloutier's other interests include backcountry skiing, beekeeping, cycling and running.

Dr. Daya joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1988 and currently serves as our EMS Section Director and Fellowship Director. Dr. Daya also serves as the EMS Medical Director for Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Forest Grove Fire & Rescue as well as the Medical Director of Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency. His professional interests include cardiac arrest, emergency medical services systems, international emergency medicine, and time-critical emergencies: AMI, stroke, trauma, travel medicine and occupational infectious diseases. In his free times he enjoys traveling, reading, playing squash and listening to music.

Dr. Hendrickson joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2002. He is currently the Program Director for the fellowship in medical toxicology at OHSU as well as the Medical Director for OHSU's Emergency Management Program. Dr. Hendrickson's research interests are in the fields of illicit drug use, methamphetamine, disaster preparedness, and acetaminophen. He has twice been awarded the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine's Most Newsworthy Abstracts for his work on methamphetamine-related Emergency Department visits. Dr. Hendrickson can be spotted running, cycling, and mountain biking in the greater Portland area.

Dr. John McConnell joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2002. He is currently the Director of the Center for Health Systems Effectiveness. His interests include health economics, health policy, management practices, and quality improvement. When he's not busy with his research you can find him running, skiing, reading and cooking.

Dr. Sun joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2011. He completed a fellowship in health services research at UCLA in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. In 2010 Dr. Sun was honored with the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Young Investigator Award. His research studies include geriatric syncope and emergency department crowding, and in his free time you can find him hiking Portland's many trails or rollerblading along the riverfront.

Dr. Yarris joined the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty in 2005. She currently serves as the Co-Director of the Emergency Medicine Education Section, and Co-Director of the Emergency Medicine Education Research Fellowship as well as the Co-Chair for the 2012 Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Consensus Conference. She is also the Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Her academic areas of interest include promoting education research in academic emergency medicine, feedback in medical education, teaching and assessing clinical reasoning skills, teaching and evaluating professionalism and interpersonal & communication skills. Dr. Yarris enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, and training and competing in triathlons. She can also be found cooking, reading, and knitting.

Dr. Bengtzen joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU, as full-time faculty in July of 2012. She recently completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Orthopedics & Rehabilitation and the Department of Family Medicine at OHSU, where she holds a joint appointment. Dr. Bengtzen currently serves as the Assistant Program Director for the OHSU Emergency Medicine residency program where she also completed her residency in 2011. Her professional interests include sports sideline emergency action planning, sudden cardiac arrest in youth athletes, community education, acute musculoskeletal injuries, and facilitating injured athletes of all ages and experience levels to return safely back to exercise. In her free time you may find her playing soccer, making a home cooked meal or traveling and taking photos of her adventures.

Dr. Chang joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in July of 2012 as a K12 Scholar for the Oregon Multidisciplinary Training program in Emergency Medicine Clinical Research. Dr. Chang most recently completed a fellowship in Emergency Cardiac Care Research at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and her research interests include risk stratification of chest pain patients, transitions of care and care coordination, and gender disparities.

Dr. Erickson joined the Department of Emergency Medicine as a full-time faculty member in August 2012. She had been an adjunct faculty member at OHSU since October of 2010 after completing an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Denver Health Medical Center. Dr. Erickson currently serves as the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship Director. Her academic interests include medical student education, musculoskeletal and pulmonary ultrasound, and international medicine and in her free time she enjoys hiking, snowboarding, mountain biking and spending time with her family.

Dr. Hansen joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU as full-time faculty in July of 2012. His research interests focus on resuscitation and stabilization of ill and injured children in the prehospital and Emergency Department settings. Dr. Hansen is particularly interested in studying pediatric airway and respiratory management in the prehospital setting which are critical components of resuscitation in many common pediatric emergencies from both medical and traumatic causes. In his free time Dr. Hansen enjoys hiking, backpacking, and skiing.

Dr. Kornegay joined the Department of Emergency Medicine as full-time faculty in July 2014 after completing his medical school, residency and fellowship training all at OHSU. He currently serves one of the Assistant Program Directors for the residency program. One of his greatest education passions is the residency program and assisting with recruitment, teaching and career development for residents joining the field of Emergency Medicine. His research focus is Adult Cardiac Arrest and ways to improve outcomes in this critically ill patient population. When not working, he enjoys martial arts, rock climbing, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Kusin joined the Department of Emergency Medicine a full-time faculty in July 2013 after completing fellowship training at OHSU. She is the department's Informatics Director and her academic interests include medical toxicology (in particular, drugs of abuse and plant and animal-based toxins) and optimization of the electronic health record to enhance community-wide health care through information sharing and clinical decision support. Dr. Kusin is a huge enthusiast of creative writing; she teaches an elective to medical students about the value of creative writing in medical training and is close to completing her first novel. She also enjoys strength training, kickboxing, and dance.

Dr. Kalbfleisch joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1991. For 15 years, he served as an Assistant Residency Director and now manages the Clinical Research Investigative Studies Program (CRISP). He also coordinates training for medical students in a course called Sexual Orientation Issues in Health Care. His research interests include vulnerable populations, GLBT issues, global health and geriatric emergency care. Dr. Kalbfleisch started out with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology and Botany and you may find him in one of Oregon's many parks or the zoo putting his knowledge to good use.

Robert A. Lowe, MD, MPH, joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2001. Dr. Lowe served as a clinician and teacher of Emergency Medicine for over 25 years. He founded the Center for Policy and Research in Emergency Medicine (CPR-EM) and the Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship. His research background includes over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and he currently serves as Principal Investigator of three NIH grants, including OHSU's new K12 Institutional Research Training Grant in Emergency Medical Care.

Dr. Yue joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU as part-time faculty in July of 2014. She also holds a part-time faculty position in the Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Randall Children's Hospital. She received an MD degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed a Pediatric residency at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and remained in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for an additional year as a chief resident. She completed a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship and a Master of Clinical Research at OHSU in July 2014. Dr. Yue's research interests involve minimizing radiation exposure in the evaluation of children in the Emergency Department. Specifically, she investigated the use of Quick-Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the detection of shunt malfunction in children with VP shunts. Dr. Yue is also interested in emergency medicine residency education and simulation education. When she is not working in the Pediatric Emergency Department or teaching medical students and residents, Dr. Yue is busy taking care of her two young sons, teaching them to speak Cantonese and instilling into them her love of food and Michigan sports.
