Emergency Communications Center

OHSU Emergency Department: Each year the ECC handles over 500,000 calls for the department, including pages to house staff, consultants, requests for special procedures, interpreters, family and many others. Most communications into and out of the department goes through the ECC. In addition the ECC functions as a single point of contact for after-hour and weekend calls to the OHSU Physician Consult Service, a physician-to-physician referral and consultation service. Requests for OCRT (Oregon Critical Response Team) activations are made through the ECC as a public service to the EMS community.

OHSU Transport Center\PANDA\ATT: Both the Pediatric and Neonatal Doernboecher Transport Team (PANDA), and the Adult Transport Team (ATT) use the ECC for their point of contact. Referring physicians called over 1,200 times last year to either request a specialty team such as PANDA, or our ATT, or to speak with a physician and arrange transfer of a patient to OHSU. Emergency Medicine Physicians respond to referring hospitals either by Rotor Wing or Fixed Wing to care for the patient during transport to OHSU. The ECC staff maintains flight following throughout the course of the transport.

Trauma Communications Center: OHSU ECC was designated by the State as ATAB1 Trauma Communication Center (TCC). Every year about 3,200 trauma system entries are made through this center. Whether the destination is OHSU or Emanuel Hospital, the TCC insures that accurate and timely reports regarding patient injury and condition are made to the receiving facility. Communications regarding multiple-patient scenes are frequently coordinated through our center. The data collected in the process of emergency communications is subsequently used for studies and for system analysis, including GIS (Geographic Information Systems) analysis.
