Course Purpose Statement

This elective provides students with an introduction to all aspects of Emergency Medicine. Students participate in the daily care of emergency patients with attending staff. Students will be assigned shifts in the Emergency Departments at St. Charles Bend, St. Charles Redmond, or Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Students will be expected to attend weekly Grand Rounds, clinical conferences, and other continuing medical education activities as assigned by their attending. St. Charles Bend is located in Bend, OR, approximately 160 miles southeast of the main OHSU campus. St. Charles (Bend) is designated as a Level II Trauma Center by the Oregon Public Health Division. Bend is the only Level II Trauma Center east of the Cascades. St. Charles (Redmond) is a certified Level III Trauma Center. Pioneer Memorial Hospital (Prineville) is a Level IV Trauma Center.
