Who can view streams?
What software is required?
How many concurrent viewers can view?
What is the timeline for uploading an archive file?

1. Is streaming for me?

Yes

  • If there are users who cannot attend an event and if two-way communication is not important. Remember that there will be a delay before the viewers see the live event.
  • If viewers wish to watch at their pleasure or watch later to review information.
  • If your content does not require high resolution or does not have small print.

No

  • If you need to have a large picture. If the player is enlarged to full screen, the picture becomes pixilated.
  • If you wish to stream a long videotape, unless it can be logically segmented.
  • If you have copyrighted materials for which you do not have releases, or materials with do not conform to HIPAA regulations, or releases from speakers.

2. Where can I view streaming video?

You can view a streaming video on a computer with a web browser and connection to the Internet. The group holding the event will typically send out a notice with the web address.

3. Who can view streams?

Some live and archived streams can be viewed by anyone who can connect to our servers.
However, some streams are restricted, either by password or by undisclosed URL.

4. What software is required?

OSHU has standardized on RealMedia for its streaming video. One needs a Real Player to view the stream. Go to the Real Player web site and download the free player.

5. How many concurrent viewers can view?

OHSU network: 133 total
That is the total of all viewers watching both
live and archived streams on the “OHSU” server.

Non-OHSU: 66 total
That is the total of all viewers watching both
live and archived streams on the “non-OHSU” server.

6. What is the timeline for uploading an archive file?

A finished tape can be uploaded within 5 working days. If a faster upload is desired, contact EdComm with that request. If at all possible, it will be honored.
