Celebrating 50 Years of Image-Guided Intervention
In Oregon on January 16, 1964, Dr. Dotter used a wire guide and coaxial catheter to repair a clogged leg artery in an 82-year old woman paving the path to an entirely new approach to procedural medicine. This first angioplasty shaped the future of many specialties and contributed to advances in the treatment of diseases in almost every organ system. As a result, hundreds of millions of patients around the world have benefited from image-guided interventions over the last 50 years. This procedure shaped the future of medicine and contributed to saving millions of limbs and lives all over the world.
