| Dusan Pavcnik with Best Poster award at the CIRSE |
Scientific exhibits, educational videotapes and CD-ROM production have been an effective part of the Institute’s educational program. In 1995, the Institute compiled two exhibits, concentrating on problems with TIPS patency and its improvement with use of covered stents. Recently, three scientific exhibits were designed showcasing a new and very promising Square stent device developed by Dr. Dusan Pavcnik. They focused on the Square stent used as a carrier for various devices, including endografts for aortic aneurysms, retrievable IVC filters, large vessel occluders and venous and aortic valves.
The exhibits entitled "Square stent, a new vascular device with many applications for minimally invasive therapy" and "Percutaneous prosthetic venous valve" received the Best Poster award at the annual meetings of the Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology Society of Europe in September 1999 in Prague, Czech Republic and in September 2000 in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
The Institute’s educational videotape on "How to do TIPS the Dotter Institute way," made in 1996, has been very successful and popular. An enthusiastic acceptance was also received for the multimedia CD-ROM "Historic Highlights of Interventional Radiology and SCVIR," made in 1998 for the 25th anniversary of the society. It was first presented in San Francisco at an annual meeting evening reception in March 1998. In 1999, the SCVIR gave one of these CD-ROMs to each of the 4,000 plus registrants at the annual meeting in Orlando.
