Long term Fellowships
Long-term clinical fellowship training consists of three, one- to two-year positions in vascular and interventional radiology (VIR) and one, six- to eighteen-month position in neurointerventional. The VIR two-year fellowship includes six months of interventional research. Altogether, 23 vascular and interventional fellows and five neurointerventional fellows have graduated from the Institute’s program since 1990. The VIR fellowship is accredited by the ACGME (American Council of Graduate Medical Education).
Admission to both long-term clinical fellowship programs has been very competitive. In the vascular and interventional radiology program, more than 100 radiologists annually send their applications. A review committee selects about 15 applicants for personal interviews, which are conducted in December. In January, the best candidates are selected for the following year. In the neuroradiology interventional program, candidates are selected mostly from the interested residents involved in OHSU neuroradiology and neurosurgery training programs. Almost half of the graduates of both the Institute’s clinical fellowship programs have entered practice at academic teaching institutions.
