Dr. Robert Barton joined the Dotter Institute in 1991 as an assistant professor of interventional therapy.
Barton spends most of his time engaged in direct patient care and in
teaching fellows and residents at OHSU. He is active in
clinical work encompassing nearly all aspects of interventional
radiology. His research interests
lie mainly in assessing the effectiveness of new therapeutic
modalities. He is also interested in exploring ways to
use computers, networks, and
telecommunications to facilitate medical care, teaching,
and research. Barton is a member of the SCVIR membership
and Internet committees.
Barton graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1983. After an internship in general surgery, he completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at Southwestern. In 1988, he received board certification in diagnostic radiology. Barton then moved to the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he completed a fellowship in interventional radiology. He remained on the faculty at UAB for a year before coming to OHSU. Barton earned a certificate of added qualifications in vascular and interventional radiology in 1998.
In his spare time, what Barton enjoys most is spending time with his family. He volunteers as a basketball coach at his children’s school. He is an avid hiker and photographer and spends much of his summers camping throughout the West.
