Atopic dermatitis (Eczema)
Atopic dermatitis (Eczema)
OHSU's Department of Dermatology doctors provide world-class expertise
in treating and researching atopic dermatitis, or eczema, as it is commonly
known. The term eczema refers to a number of different skin conditions in which the skin is red and irritated and occasionally results in small, fluid-filled bumps that become moist and ooze. The most common cause of eczema is atopic dermatitis, sometimes called infantile eczema although it occurs in infants and older children.

OHSU Department of Dermatology faculty member Jon
Hanifin, M.D., professor of dermatology, has been instrumental in
understanding the clinical, biological and genetic aspects of atopic diseases.
As such, the department offers numerous clinical trials each year.
Beyond Dr. Hanifin, many department doctors have a strong interest in atopic dermatitis including: Eric Simpson, M.D., assistant professor of dermatology; Alfons L. Krol, M.D., F.R.C.P.C., professor of dermatology and pediatrics; Susan Tofte, R.N., F.N.P., assistant professor of dermatology.
