Frances J. Storrs, M.D. receives American Academy of Dermatology's Gold Medal
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) awarded its Gold Medal to OHSU dermatologist Frances J. Storrs, MD,
professor emerita of dermatology, School of Medicine, at its 66th Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas in early February.
The highest award of the AAD, the Gold Medal is presented in recognition of outstanding and exceptional service to the specialty of dermatology and substantial impact on the future of the science, teaching and practice of cutaneous medicine. There have been only 28 honorees since the early 1960's.
Dr. Storrs received her medical degree from Cornell Medical School, New York, N.Y., and completed her residency in dermatology at OHSU as the first female accepted into the program. She focused on the dermatologic subspecialty of contact dermatitis very early in her career and is considered an international leader in this area of medicine. Dr. Storrs's work has been featured in nearly 90 publications and she is a sought-after lecturer on contact dermatitis and on the topic of mentoring, an important focus for Dr. Storrs. Currently, she is the director of the Contact and Environmental Dermatitis Clinic at OHSU.
Diane Baker, M.D., clinical professor of dermatology, School of Medicine, and
American Academy of Dermatology, president (2007-2008), presents the Gold Medal
to Frances J. Storrs, M.D., professor emerita of dermatology, School of Medicine.
From the beginning of her tenure at OHSU in the late 1960's, she has been actively and passionately involved in the
education of medical students and dermatology residents, in addition to contributing her talents to many other areas
within the University. Recently, she has been interviewed as part of OHSU's Oral History Program and her interview
will be available soon (visit http://www.ohsu.edu/library/hom/oralhist.shtml

In addition, an endowment fundraising effort is underway to create a professorship in Dr. Storrs' name to honor her as an ethical practitioner of medicine, a talented researcher and, especially, as an inspiring mentor of so many.
