DERMATOPATHOLOGY FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW
The Department of Dermatology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), in partnership with the Department of Pathology, offers a one-year fellowship in dermatopathology accredited through the ACGME. Our highly skilled and experienced team of dermatopathology faculty consists of three dermatopathologists who review over 20,000 biopsies per year including in-house cases, outside consultative cases and direct immunofluorescence specimens.

The overall goal of the dermatopathology fellowship program at OHSU is to train fellows to be superb dermatopathologists, preferably with some academic or teaching roles. Specific goals of the program vary according to whether the fellow has a previous background in pathology versus a background in dermatology. Dermatology-trained fellows rotate through surgical pathology, with emphasis in areas that overlap with dermatopathology. Pathology-trained fellows spend a portion of their training rotating in the dermatology clinics. We have the common goal in producing dermatopathologists who fulfill the dermatopathology ACGME requirements and who will be well-prepared to sit for the certifying examination upon completion of the program.

Additionally, didactic sessions are integrated into the program to enhance the fellow's learning experience. Fellows with a pathology background will attend dermatology conferences, while fellows with a pathology background will sign out dermpath cases with the training program director every afternoon. Required clinical conferences include Grand Rounds, Clinical Dermatology Unknown Conference and Translational Research Conference.
