Education & training
Dr. Blauvelt received his medical degree from Michigan State University in 1988. After an
internal medicine internship at Henry Ford Hospital, he trained in clinical dermatology at the University
of Miami until 1992. He then obtained postdoctoral research training in cellular immunology and molecular
virology in the Dermatology Branch, National Cancer Institute (NCI) and in the Laboratory of Molecular
Microbiology, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. In 1996, Dr. Blauvelt became principal
investigator and head of the Viral Pathogenesis Section in the Dermatology Branch of the NCI. In 2003, he
received tenure at the NIH.PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
