RESIDENCY
The dermatology residency training program at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is a three-year program that offers broad training in cutaneous medicine and surgery. Directed by Dr. Theresa Devere, the program provides extensive clinical and research instruction in all aspects of dermatology. The program has strong ties to Portland's active dermatologic community. Affiliate (volunteer) faculty from surrounding communities play an active teaching role in lectures and conferences.

Four residents are appointed each year following at least a PGY1 year in medicine, surgery or pediatrics. In addition to clinical duties, residents participate in weekly conferences, journal clubs and other didactic sessions. Opportunities exist for individual residents to pursue avenues of research interest.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Dermatology is a full-service academic department of Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon's only academic health center.

Since its beginnings in 1912, the Department of Dermatology has been known for its outstanding patient care and community service to the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Stable leadership and innovative research have consistently provided programs and services that continue to improve the health of the patients that we serve. Equally important has been the education of residents, interns, medical students and postdoctoral fellows. To date, more than 150 residents and 20 dermatologic surgery fellows have been trained through the efforts of the department. The addition of fellowships in dermatopathology and pediatric dermatology has also contributed greatly to the state and national need for dermatologists and health care providers, with more than 40 percent of dermatologists trained staying within the Pacific Northwest.

The Department is distinguished for its accomplishments in basic and clinical research in atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, skin cancer and psoriasis. Under the leadership of Neil A. Swanson, M.D., the Department has enjoyed a long period of growth in patient care that has helped to support the development of a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art services. Internationally-known experts in skin treatment and sub-specialties contribute to the Department's well regarded reputation.

Currently the program has faculty with expertise in:

CLINICAL FACILITIES
