Training Opportunities
Graduate Training within the SBRC. The
SBRC supports a Training Core which is designed to provide graduate
students with interdisciplinary training in both biomedical and
nonbiomedical research areas related to the SBRC. Students are exposed
to multiple disciplines, ranging from the movement of toxins within
the environment to the health effects of these toxins at the molecular
level. All students in the SBRC Training Core are recruited into
the Graduate Toxicology
Program located within the Department
of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology at Oregon
State University (OSU). After taking the required core courses
from this graduate program, students have great latitude in designing
a curriculum to best serve their interests. A wide range of advanced
courses is offered at OSU and Oregon
Health & Science University (OHSU), as is specialized training
at Battelle, Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory. Each student also has the flexibility to select
a mentor from any of the projects within the SBRC, and if desired
they can develop a thesis project that is conducted in more than
one SBRC laboratory.
For more information on graduate training
within the SBRC, contact Training Core
directors Mitchell Turker (
) (OHSU) or David Williams (
)
(OSU).
Opportunities for undergraduates and
postdoctoral fellows may also be available
within the SBRC. To find out more, please
visit the Students
section of CROET's website.
For information about other science education programs at OHSU,
including opportunities for high school students, please contact
OHSU's Office of Science Education
Opportunities.
