List of the SBRC's Principal Investigators

The Superfund Basic Research Center (SBRC) at Oregon Health & Science University is a multidisciplinary team of researchers whose common goal is to promote health and prevent disease in populations at risk for hazardous chemical exposure at Superfund sites. We bring together scientists with expertise in a variety of fields, including environmental health and science, epidemiology, pharmacology, toxicology, neuroscience, chemistry, engineering, and microbiology. The focus of the SBRC is the investigation of several classes of Superfund chemicals that produce toxic or mutagenic effects in the nervous system.

The SBRC includes more than 40 scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and technical and support staff from three research institutes:

CROET

CROET, the Center for Research on Occupational and Environmental Toxicology, is a part of Oregon Health & Science University, located in Portland, Oregon. CROET is the lead research institute for the SBRC, housing the Center's Program Director and administrative functions, as well as investigators who lead several of the SBRC's biomedical research projects.

Find out more about CROET by visiting its website.

Oregon State University

Oregon State University (OSU) is located approximately 80 miles south of Portland, in Corvallis, OR. OSU investigators lead the SBRC's nonbiomedical research projects. OSU also offers interdisciplinary graduate training in toxicology in collaboration with OHSU and the SBRC.

Find out more about OSU by visiting its website.

Battelle, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is one of nine U.S. Department of Energy multiprogram national laboratories. It is located in Richland, WA, approximately 230 miles east of Portland. Battelle has operated Pacific Northwest for the U.S. Department of Energy and its predecessors since 1965. SBRC investigators at PNNL are also involved in biomedical research of Superfund chemicals.
