NEIL CUTLER joined the division in 1999 after eight years as a research assistant in the Sleep Research Laboratory. He assists the division faculty and other members of the staff with research projects and publications.

Failure to Thrive Disorder
Nancy Winters, M.D., is a co-investigator in a new collaborative study with Pediatric Endocrinology and General Pediatrics at OHSU. The study is being conducted in the Clinical Research Center at OHSU and seeks to better understand Failure to Thrive Disorder in infants and children.

Sleep Disturbances in Totally Blind Children
Kyle Johnson, M.D., is conducting a study of totally blind children with circadian rhythm (body clock) disturbances. The study seeks to understand more about circadian rhythms and sleep patterns in blind children in order to develop effective treatments in the future.

Prevalence of Behavioral and Emotional
Disturbance in Hospitalized Children

Robert McKelvey, M.D., M.D., has begun a research project in conjunction with Doernbecher Children's Hospital. The study seeks to identify behavioral and emotional problems among children (and their families) admitted to the hospital. A second goal of the project is to understand more about the consult rate to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Data gathered from the study will be analyzed and used to improve the consultation service in the future.

Adaptation of Former Political Prisoners
Robert McKelvey, M.D. is conducting a longitudinal study of the long-term adaptation of Vietnamese former political prisoners and their families.

Prevalence of Psychiatric Disorders among Vietnamese Children
Robert McKelvey, M.D. is comparing the mental health of Vietnamese children living in Perth, Australia, with the incidence of psychiatric disorders among Vietnamese children living in Hanoi.

Transferability of Didactic Instruction
Robert McKelvey, M.D. is studying the transferability of didactic instruction in the diagnosis and treatment of adolescent depression and suicide to the clinical setting in primary care.

Mental Health Needs of the Families of Bone Marrow
Transplant Patients

Robert McKelvey, M.D. is researching the impact of bone marrow transplants in children on the mental health needs of their parents and families.
