DESCRIPTION:
Residents participate in the Morrison Center's Supported Classroom Project in the Portland Public Elementary Schools. Residents must be familiar and comply with the Special Education referral and assessment process, Section 504's, Public Law 94-142, IDEA law, and Portland Public School confidentiality policies and procedures.

DURATION:
Four months, one half day per week in the first year.

SUPERVISION:
Dr. Wolfe provides intensive supervision for the first month of the rotation, and one hour of individual supervision per week thereafter. When not in the classroom, Dr. Wolfe is available to the resident by pager.

METHODS:

  • Conducts psychiatric educational evaluations for the Portland Public Schools
  • Provides ongoing consultation to the school staff and teachers in an assigned supported classroom
  • Provides medication management as needed in the classroom
  • Performs "spot observations" in normal classrooms
  • Available via pager during business hours throughout the rotation to provide non-urgent medication management and treatment recommendations
