Developmental biologists are interested in the regulatory mechanisms that guide the development of organisms from the fertilized egg to adulthood. Developmental biologists in the department are study developmental events such as the determination of patterning events that occur during the development of organ systems such as the nervous system. The organisms studied by developmental biologists in the department include insects such as Drosophila and Manduca and vertebrates such as Xenopus, zebrafish, and mice.
