Cell biologists generally study the intracellular locations of important regulatory events. For example, some cell biologists study the mechanisms that guide the trafficking of newly made proteins from their sites of synthesis to their ultimate cellular locations. Others study the mechanisms and signals that direct the movement of cell surface receptors through cytoplasmic compartments or the signaling mechanisms that direct the movement of transcription factors from cytoplasmic locations to the nucleus.
