Although we in the Schnapp lab work ascribe to the notion that accomplishment in science requires intensity and hard work, we try not to confuse our careers with our lives. To develop intensity in the lab, it helps to be happy (easily achieved living in Portland and the Pacific Northwest!). While you will never be discouraged from working as hard or as long as you want, we recognize the importance of getting away and experiencing the other adventures that life has to offer. Our goal is to amplify the intensity of your interest, not the hours you spend at the bench. If the interest is high, the work will succeed.
