Research in my laboratory is focused on the molecular mechanisms that control epithelial - mesenchymal interactions in development. We are interested in pattern formation in craniofacial development and use odontogenesis and palatogenesis as models. Specifically, we are studying the roles of retinoids, growth factors and hedgehog genes. Recent work includes the role of hedgehog genes in control of the fate of the medial edge epithelium during palatal fusion.
