Welcome to all prospective applicants.

The training program in Developmental Biology complements and integrates the departmental training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in biomedical research in the field of developmental biology. Twenty-five faculty members from different basic science departments and institutes throughout OHSU serve as mentors. These investigators share biochemical, molecular, cellular and/or genetic approaches to understanding developmental processes in a variety of animal models including Drosophila, zebrafish, Xenopus, chick and mouse. Through an NIH training grant, the program provides stipend support on a competitive basis for both pre- and post-doctoral trainees in participating laboratories.

In addition to academic requirements, trainees participate in a variety of extracurricular activities including a journal club, monthly research-in-progress meetings, the annual Northwest Regional Developmental Biology Conference and an annual developmental biology research symposium. These activities foster cohesiveness among scientists at OHSU whose research is focused on developmental biology; they also expose trainees to the diverse aspects of this field through interactions with scientists at other universities.
