Seminars and Journal Clubs

One of the primary objectives of the center is to enhance and strengthen academic programs in biostatistics and bioinformatics, as well as facilitate interactions among researchers from diverse areas. Seminar series and journal clubs offer an excellent venue for such community building.

CBCIBM Seminar Series

As part of the research and education mission of the center, the CBCIBM seminar series was developed to foster closer collaboration and interaction among researchers across departments and schools at OHSU. The seminar series provides a neutral location for people involved in Biostatistics, Computing and Informatics to learn about recent advances from experts in the field, to exchange ideas and hold discussions about issues of common concern. Quarterly keynote speakers will come from industry as well as academia, drawing both local and national visitors. The first year’s schedule is being set now and will be posted shortly.

Seminar Series Organizer: Dr. Shannon McWeeney

Informatics Seminar Series (ISS)

An informal seminar series co-hosted by the CBCIBM BBSR Advanced Data and Computing Group and the GCRC Informatics Core. Topics include new technologies, clinical and biomedical informatics, as well as current applications and development. Seminars are held the last Tuesday of every month.
For more information, please contact Edwin Quick , Project Manager for CBCIBM.

Statistical Genetics Journal Club

The Statistical Genetics Journal Club addresses a variety of topics of general interest in population and statistical genetics, and genetic epidemiology. These include novel linkage and association studies, as well as issues involving linkage disequilibrium, common polymorphisms (especially SNPs), epistasis, haplotype structure, effects of natural selection on common diseases, covariate analyses in gene mapping, gene expression analyses and theories regarding the genetic structure of common diseases.

The journal club meets monthly, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, beginning Tuesday, April 13, 2004. We will meet in the Hatfield Research Center (HRC), 13th floor conference room 13D40A, from 9-10 am.

Journal Club Organizer: Dr. Patricia Kramer
