Sarah Cox

Howdy! I am a new nursing student and a native of North Carolina, where my family has lived for a few hundred years. I studied creative writing at Elon University, and since then, I have spent the past four years living and learning on a cooperative farm in rural Washington, working as a caregiver, and exploring the natural wonders of the Columbia River Gorge. I’m a lover of big-city culture and fresh forest air, and running and yoga keep me sane. I’m also known to get fired up about creative pursuits, travel, rabbits, and studying the human brain.

I hope that nursing will allow me to connect with people, to ease suffering wherever I can, to aid in healthcare reform, and to put all my skills–from the analytical to the intuitive–to good use. I’m interested in community and women’s health, mental health, disability, hospice, and generally helping families in times of crisis. These days, I’m all about pushing myself to climb bigger and bigger mountains–nursing school being one of them–and as an aspiring nurse-writer, I’m so happy to be sharing this adventure with you.

It’s students writing first-hand about their commitment to careers in science and health care. It’s honest about the challenges as well as the joys. It’s not always pretty. But it is our story. Thank you for sharing it with us. And please, let us know what you think.
