Joe Rood

My name is Joe, and I’m a PA student in the 2016 class.  I was born and raised in Olympia, WA, where I did my undergraduate work at Saint Martin’s University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  I’ve been a Firefighter/EMT since 2010 and worked full time with both a local fire department and for a private ambulance company.  This is where I gained the bulk of my patient care experience, with the rest supplemented by my work as an ER Tech at Auburn Medical Center in Auburn, WA.  I moved to Portland with my fiancé, who is interested in pursuing her education in nursing.

Ever wondered what life is like as a student at OHSU? What does it take to become a researcher? Just how gross is gross anatomy? Welcome to the blog that answers these – and many other – questions. It’s students writing first-hand about their commitment to careers in science and health care. It’s honest about the challenges as well as the joys. It’s not always pretty. But it is our story. Thank you for sharing it with us. And please, let us know what you think.
