OHSU vaccine candidate completely clears AIDS-causing virus from the body

An HIV/AIDS vaccine candidate developed by researchers at Oregon Health & Science University appears to have the ability to completely clear an AIDS-causing virus from the body. In a paper published online today in Nature, the researchers show that 50 percent of monkeys given the vaccine were able to completely eliminate the monkey form of HIV. Jonah Sacha, Ph.D., secures $1 million in funding for HIV vaccine research

Back in January we announced that Louis Picker, M.D., and his research team had received $8 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to further develop a promising HIV vaccine candidate. OHSU researchers have secured an additional $1 million from the Gates Foundation through their Grand Challenges Explorations funding program.
