Reminder: NIH Shared Instrumentation Grant, internal applications due Feb. 15

The Shared Instrument Grant Program (S10) provides groups of NIH-supported investigators funds to purchase or upgrade a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instrumentation or an integrated system that costs at least $100,000. Types of instruments supported include confocal and electron microscopes, biomedical imagers, mass spectrometers, DNA sequencers, biosensors, cell-sorters, X-ray diffraction systems, and NMR spectrometers among others. There is no limit on the number of applications an institution may submit provided the applications … Read More

Instrumentation development funding from NIH

The National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) has a funding opportunity for research instrumentation that has the potential to benefit a wide range of biomedical and clinical scientists: Instrumentation Development for Biomedical Applications (R21). Funded applicants can receive up to $125,000 per year for three years through this program. Examples of tools and techniques that might be responsive to this solicitation include: optical spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, electrophoresis and other separation techniques, microscopy, lasers and optics, … Read More

Department of Defense offers research instrumentation funding

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has recently released a $50,000 to $1 million research instrumentation opportunity. The Defense University Research Instrumentation Program, also known as DURIP, is designed to aid U.S. universities to conduct research relevant to DoD’s mission areas, and to educate scientists in areas important to national defense (refer to the full announcement for more information about DoD funding priorities). Current DoD funding recipients are especially encouraged to apply, although the competition … Read More

OHSU MRI System gets an upgrade

Last week, we mentioned that OHSU has been awarded three new Shared Instrumentation Grants (S10s) from the NIH National Center for Research Resources. In addition to a new laser capture microdissection system, ONPRC will recevie a $500,000 grant to upgrade its Siemens 3T (Trio) MRI system system with a Total imaging matrix (Tim) console and hardware components. The upgrade will provide the ONPRC with the most up-to-date equipment, enhancing speed and image quality for several … Read More

New laser capture microdissection system at ONPRC

OHSU has recently been awarded three new Shared Instrumentation Grants (S10) from the NIH National Center for Research Resources. One of these new instruments, housed in the Imaging and Morphology Core at the West Campus ONPRC/VGTI building, is a state of the art laser-based tool that offers efficient and precise dissection of single and small groups of cells. Specifically, tool will enable isolation of pure cell populations or microscopic-size anatomical areas out of complex tissues. … Read More

Confocal and live-cell imaging available at new Advanced Light Microscopy Core Facility

The University Shared Resources program is delighted to announce the opening of the new Advanced Light Microscopy Core at the Jungers Center. This new facility represents a collaboration among several microscopy groups on campus, including the Jungers Center for Neurosciences Research, the Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology, and the Oregon Hearing Research Center.  The new Shared Resource, staffed by two experienced imaging specialists, can meet many of your confocal and live-cell imaging needs.  Instruments … Read More
