Reminder: NIH Shared Instrumentation Grant, internal applications due Feb. 15

The Shared Instrument Grant Program (S10) provides groups of NIH-supported investigators funds to purchase or upgrade a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instrumentation or an integrated system that costs at least $100,000. Types of instruments supported include confocal and electron microscopes, biomedical imagers, mass spectrometers, DNA sequencers, biosensors, cell-sorters, X-ray diffraction systems, and NMR spectrometers among others. There is no limit on the number of applications an institution may submit provided the applications … Read More

Reminder: Emerging Technology Fund letters of intent due Oct. 1

Letters of intent are due October 1, 2012 for the Emerging Technology Fund program, which provides funds for OHSU faculty members to purchase major equipment or technology needed to conduct state-of-the-art research. Technologies funded by this award could include novel instrumentation previously unavailable at OHSU, as well as upgrading high-end equipment that has become obsolete due to technical advances. Funds may be awarded to a group of investigators; a department, center, or institute; or a … Read More

NIH 2012 International Conference on Sustainable Laboratories

The NIH has announced that its 2012 “Sustainable Laboratories: Choosing the Right Equipment” conference will be held on December 13 and 14, 2012 in Bethesda, Maryland. This is an opportunity for researchers and clinicians to learn about the latest advances in laboratory equipment, which utilize cutting-edge energy efficiency technologies for biomedical research laboratories. The conference may be of special interest to those involved in managing research equipment and writing construction grants. Day one: Innovative energy-saving … Read More

MRB Researchers: New Info on Pending Shutdown

On June 15, we alerted you to the pending shutdown of the Medical Research Building, scheduled for June 24th through 26th. We attended the open forum held by OHSU Facilities on June 16 and here’s what we learned: The engineers now believe they will need to take the cooling system offline only from 7 p.m. Friday, June 24th to 9 a.m. Saturday, June 25th. This shorter time period should minimize the impact to research areas … Read More

New Shared OHSU Research Resource: In Vivo Optical Imaging Center

The In Vivo Optical Imaging Center (IOIC) is up and running! This shared resource is available to all interested OHSU researchers who wish to reserve for use in a project. The IOIC offers access to state-of-the-art equipment for in vivo biophotonic detection of bioluminescent and fluorescent reporters. Common uses of the system include spatial assessment of gene expression patterns, cell tracking, and disease monitoring with optical probes. Interested OHSU researchers can find out more information … Read More

Shared Instrumentation Grant Equipment Available to OHSU Researchers

In 2010, OHSU received 5 Shared Instrumentation Grants from the National Center for Research Resources. The total award to OHSU was $1,383,108. These shared instruments are now available to the OHSU research community at large. Specific award information, including the details of the equipment, is available by clicking on the instrument name below. Stay tuned for further information on how to sign up your research project. New Emerging Technology Fund for OHSU Investigators

OHSU investigators are invited to apply for a new fund for cutting-edge technology: the Emerging Technology Fund.  Its purpose is to provide funds to purchase equipment or technology needed to conduct state-of-the-art research–whether this equipment is new instrumentation that has not been available at OHSU or whether it is to replace equipment that has become obsolete because of major advances in technology. This program is designed to begin where the NIH S10 program leaves off: … Read More

OHSU MRI System gets an upgrade

Last week, we mentioned that OHSU has been awarded three new Shared Instrumentation Grants (S10s) from the NIH National Center for Research Resources. In addition to a new laser capture microdissection system, ONPRC will recevie a $500,000 grant to upgrade its Siemens 3T (Trio) MRI system system with a Total imaging matrix (Tim) console and hardware components. The upgrade will provide the ONPRC with the most up-to-date equipment, enhancing speed and image quality for several … Read More

New laser capture microdissection system at ONPRC

OHSU has recently been awarded three new Shared Instrumentation Grants (S10) from the NIH National Center for Research Resources. One of these new instruments, housed in the Imaging and Morphology Core at the West Campus ONPRC/VGTI building, is a state of the art laser-based tool that offers efficient and precise dissection of single and small groups of cells. Specifically, tool will enable isolation of pure cell populations or microscopic-size anatomical areas out of complex tissues. … Read More
