OHSU’s Elemental Analysis Core uses Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, or ICP-MS, to determine precise elemental concentration in a variety of biological and manufactured materials. The core has just launched their new website where you can learn all about the ICP-MS instrument, which has parts per billion and parts per trillion sensitivities for more naturally occurring elements, and easily request sample analysis. The numbers are in: 360 abstracts were submitted for OHSU Research Week–that’s over 40 more than in 2012! Thank you to everyone who submitted. Of the 360 abstracts submitted, 154 requested oral presentations and 206 requested poster presentations. Abstract submission by rank was similar to last year, although student submissions increased by about 33 percent. Applications for the 2013-2014 Presidential Bridge Funding program will be due May 17, 2013. Bridge funding is available for independent established investigators at OHSU threatened by an imminent lapse in research support. Investigators can request up to $50,000 in funding for one year to help bridge them while they generate data to restore funding. Up to 10 awards will be made this funding cycle.
