In its February newsletter, the NIH sent a reminder to investigators that all competing applications, including resubmissions, must use the new forms and follow the new page limits. For resubmissions sent to the NIH after January 25, 2010, you will need to update your original application’s Research Plan into a 6- or 12-page Research Strategy. The Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) announced that they will adopt many, but not all, of the NIH’s guidelines for enhancing peer review, evaluation, and proposal format changes starting with submissions on or after January 25th, 2010. The wait is over…the NIH started releasing the re-issued Parent Announcement with the associated updated forms, due on or after January 25th, 2010. The new funding announcements contain the correct links, updated peer review criteria, and forms. The major parents announcements have been re-issued, including the Parent R01, and most of the Parent K-awards. As if the NIH proposal format change wasn’t enough all by itself, also beginning on January 25, major changes are coming to education requirements for the responsible conduct of research–and funding decisions will take these new requirements into account.
