New deadline May 29th, 2009 If you are planning on submitting a grant under the NIH’s ARRA Research & Research Infrastructure Grand Opportunities (GO) (RC2) program, you have a couple extra days. The NIH extended the deadline from May 27th, 2009 to May 29th, 2009. Remember: You still must work with and submit your proposal through your Research Grants & Contracts analyst to ensure its timely submission. See the full notice here.

Our sources at NIH told us yesterday that they have a new worry: investigators may might not submit R01 applications for the June deadline because of the many ARRA opportunities [corrected for clarity]. Be sure to avail yourselves of this excellent funding opportunity! Unlike ARRA applications, these ones last four years! Maybe longer!

We have heard that Challenge Grants (RC1s) may be evaluated in a similar process as the “Transformative R01s.” This involves an editorial board review with some applications then selected for further review. Regardless, all applicants will receive scores and commentary of some kind. If your Challenge Grant is unsuccessful, you’ll at least have some good advice about what to do (or refrain from doing) for your next RO1. Here’s a flowchart explaining the review calendar.
