Internal funding available for neurofibromatosis research

The OHSU School of Medicine Research Roadmap is pleased to announce a new research initiative intended to advance understanding and treatment of neurofibromatosis. Projects considering NF1, NF2, or schwannomatosis, including mechanisms, diagnosis (e.g., imaging modalities), or treatment, or impact on patients (e.g., through pain, hearing loss or learning disabilities) will be considered. Any level of analysis will be welcomed, from molecular or cellular mechanisms to clinical aspects and treatment. Investigators new to this field are encouraged to apply, and proposals building cross-disciplinary interactions or using multidisciplinary approaches that have the potential to provide new perspectives on neurofibromatosis will be welcomed. One-year awards of up to $100,000 will be made, with a possibility of renewal for a second year based on progress and availability of funds.

The applications will be judged based on scientific merit and relevance to neurofibromatosis by a committee of senior scientists appointed by the Dean of the School of Medicine under the aegis of the Research Roadmap.  The proposed PI must meet OHSU PI eligibility requirements.

Letters of intent (one page accompanied by PI biosketch) must be submitted by July 1, 2014 and should be emailed to Eva Niehaus. These will be evaluated for responsiveness to the RFA.

Proposals, by invitation only, will be due August 1, 2014 and will include the following components.

  1. Title and Abstract (Abstract maximum 250 words).
  2. Specific Aims (limit 1 page)
  3. Research plan.  Comprising Background and Significance (including relevance to neurofibromatosis), Preliminary Data, and Approach (limit 5 pages).
  4. Budget and justification.
  5. References cited.
  6. Investigator biosketches.

Awards will be made by September 1, 2014.

This award is made possible by the generous support of the Edna S. Green Trust.
