We’re cross-posting the following announcement from Staff News.
Beginning Aug. 16, ITG will upgrade the servers that power Outlook email. The servers will be upgraded from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. In addition to providing several behind-the-scenes improvements, you’ll notice:
- Better calendar sharing
- Better experience in Outlook Web Access (mail.ohsu.edu)
- Better visibility on small screens like smartphones and tablets.
ITG asks that you delete any unnecessary emails prior to your mailbox migration (including emails in your Deleted Items and Sent Items folders). Individual mailboxes will be moved server-by-server, beginning Aug. 16 and continuing through mid-September.
What to expect
On your scheduled migration day, you’ll receive an email asking you to shut down all email applications at the end of your shift and power off any unneeded mobile devices. However, you’ll still have access to email during the migration if necessary. The majority of migrations will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize disruption.
After the upgrade:
- Some users may need to make slight changes to their email program configuration in order for email to work properly. Click here for a reconfiguration tip sheet.
- You may need to restart Outlook.
Prior to your mailbox migration, contact Randy Gawer in ITG at 4-7936.
After mailbox migration, contact your departmental IT Contact or the ITG Help Desk at 4-2222.
