Research Week Thursday: Dr. Byers keynote, awards reception, and more

Peter Byers, M.D.

Today’s Research Week lineup features keynote speaker Peter Byers, M.D., professor of medicine and pathology, University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Byers will be presenting on the intersection of using advanced genomic tools and clinical practice in his talk, “Getting to Recessive: Making the Rare Common.” As both a clinical and molecular geneticist, he has devoted his career to understanding the molecular pathogenesis of inherited disorders of connective tissue. He has focused on collagen genes and the enzymes involved in the post-translational modification of collagens that cause rare but dramatic skeletal diseases. This lecture is sponsored by the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute.

Researchers at all levels of experience are invited to a panel discussion at 10:30 a.m. on how to make the most out of a mentoring relationship. Facilitated by Cynthia Morris, panelists include David Jacoby, M.D., professor of Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine; Amie Peterson, M.D., MCR, assistant professor, Neurology; Karen Eden, Ph.D., associate professor, Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology and Wilmon Grant, Ph.D., MCR, postdoctoral fellow, OHSU/PVAMC.
