If you don’t already follow the Knight Cancer Institute’s Knight News, here’s a brief update on what OHSU cancer researchers have been to up this month.

Joshi Alumkal, M.D., receives award from the Prostate Cancer Foundation

Joshi Alumkal, M.D., Assistant Professor of Hematology and Oncology, was one of 24 researchers internationally to be awarded the 2011 Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. Dr. Alumkal’s project will focus on inhibiting LSD1 (Lysine-specific demethylase 1), a protein he has found drives cell growth in prostate cancer.

Lisa M. Coussens, Ph.D, and Joe Gray, Ph.D., present at international breast cancer symposium

Earlier this month, Lisa M. Coussens, Ph.D., Associate Director of Basic Research for the Knight, Hildegard Lamfrom Chair in Basic Science, and Chair of the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology,, and Joe Gray, Ph.D., Professor and Chair, Biomedical Engineering, Director of the OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine, and Associate Director for Translational Research for the Knight presented at the 2011 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
