Upcoming School of Dentistry postdoc candidate seminars
Join the OHSU School of Dentistry for the following upcoming postdoc candidate seminars. For more information about either seminar, contact Kate Maresh.
December 9, 2011
Who: Jacob Yang, Ph.D., post-doctoral associate, Janelia Farm Research Campus, Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Ashburn, VA
What: A seminar on neuronal lineage analysis in the Drosophila central nervous system
When: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Where: OHSU School of Dentistry room 606
About the talk: The Drosophila central nervous system is a highly complex structure composed of thousands of neurons, which are generated from a limited number of neuroblasts. Each neuroblast can give rise to a clonal progeny, which is called a lineage. By using a variety of genetic tools, including mosaic analysis, flip out, and enhancer GAL4 lines. My research has attempted to dissect out the developmental patterns of neuronal lineages, to uncloaks the potential connecting paths at the lineage level, and to generate a comprehensive atlas of Drosophila brains.
December 12, 2011
Who: Sonali Deshpande, PhD, graduate student, Department of Neuroscience, University of California, Riverside, Riverside, CA
What: A seminar on functional roles of ETHRs in adult Drosophila Melanogaster
When: 12 to 1 p.m.
Where: OHSU School of Dentistry room 606
About the talk: This seminar will describe novel findings concerning a neropeptides receptor that was previously thought to only function in the molting process of insects. Dr. Deshpande will describe evidence that this receptor also functions in adult insects to regulate mating behavior. This will be of general interest to endocrinologists and neuronbiologists.
