Funding opportunities from American Heart Association, due July 28
The American Heart Association Western States Affiliate has several fellowship and grant opportunities available for scientists of all career levels conducting heart-related research. Proposed research can be broadly related to cardiovascular function, disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems. The following opportunities are due July 28, 2011:
- Predoctoral Fellowship Program – Helps students initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research by providing research assistance and training. || Amount: $25,000 per year for one or two years. || Eligibility: For post baccalaureate, predoctoral M.D., Ph.D., D.O., D.V.M. (or equivalent) students who seek research training with a mentor. Predoctoral fellowships are not to support individuals while they are completing their course work or studying for their qualifying examination. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Postdoctoral Fellowship Program – Helps trainees initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research while obtaining significant research results under the supervision of a sponsor or mentor; supports individuals before they’re ready for some stage of independent research. || Amount: $38,000 to $54,000 per year for two years. || Eligibility: Applicant must have a doctoral degree (M.D., Ph.D., D.O., D.V.M. or equivalent), and no more than six years of postdoctoral research training or experience. Time spent in clinical training is excluded. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Beginning Grant-in-Aid – Promotes the independent status of promising beginning junior faculty performing research broadly related to cardiovascular disease and stroke. || Amount: $70,000 per year for two years. || Eligibility: Applicant must hold a faculty/staff rank up to and including assistant professor (or equivalent), but may not have more than seven years of experience at the assistant professor level (or equivalent). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Grant-in-Aid – Encourages and funds the most innovative and meritorious research projects related to cardiovascular disease and stroke from independent investigators. || Amount: $70,000 per year for two years. || Eligibility: Applicant must hold a faculty/staff appointment of any rank (or equivalent), and must be conducting independent research. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
