Casey Eye Institute Highlighted in New York Times
Research at the Casey Eye Institute was recently highlighted in several national news sources, including the New York Times. The articles focused on an upcoming clinical trial involving embryonic stem cells as a potential treatment for macular degeneration.
The New York Times times references OHSU Associate Professor Peter J. Francis, MD, PhD, in its discussion of the trial, saying that, “the eye is a good place to test stem cell therapy because it is accessible. Also, he said, there is less chance of rejection of the implanted cells because the eye is shielded somewhat from the body’s immune system.”
The same project was also highlighted in USA Today and the LA Times.
