What are you doing for World AIDS Day on Dec 1?
OHSU’s Partnership Project has been part of the planning of a nifty website called World AIDS Day NW. World AIDS Day NW is a resource you can use to find a local activity in support of the 22nd Annual World AIDS Day on December 1, 2010.
On December 1, people around the world will come together to recognize the 25 million individuals lost to HIV and AIDS, and the 33 million global citizens living with the HIV virus today. In the US, there are over 1.1 million Americans living with HIV and more than 20% of those infected do not even know they carry the virus. It is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that 56,000 new infections are occurring annually, even though the disease is preventable.
