Mentor a student in clinical or translational research this summer

Are you a clinical or translational researcher? Could you mentor a student in research next summer? The Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI) Oregon Students Learn and Experience Research (OSLER) program is looking for mentors for medical, dental, and graduate students for summer research in 2011. The OCTRI OSLER TL1 program can provide a stipend and modest research costs for 6 students with a possibility for 10 additional slots. We usually have more than 30 interested students and will need to match them with mentors.

To qualify as a mentor, you must have ongoing, funded clinical or translational research in which a student can participate.  We will provide the student’s stipend for 10 weeks of work and approximately $450 of research support.

Students will contact potential mentors of interest, usually in December and January. Mentors will want to talk with the student to see if it could be a successful working relationship. The student then must submit a short proposal, and the mentor must send a letter of agreement to support the student. Please note that mentors should not be named on more than two student applications. More details on the application can be found at www.octri.org/osler.

If you wish to be listed as an available mentor, please send the following information to Annette Vu by Monday, December 13.

  1. Does “medical, dental and graduate students” include nursing faculty and nursing students?

  2. I recommend you contact Annette Vu (vua@ohsu.edu), she is coordinating the process.
