Internal funding available from Knight Cancer Institute
OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute is offering funding for cancer researchers that will assist them in generating preliminary data for peer-reviewed national funding and career development proposals. Type types of funding are available:
- Cancer Research Development Awards – The Knight Cancer Institute is offering two $10,000 cancer research development awards, sponsored by U.S. Bank and Oregon Cancer Ski Out Cancer. This mechanism is intended to support clinical, basic, or population-based research that is cancer focused. Interdisciplinary research, in which investigators from disparate scientific areas collaborate to bring unique approaches to the cancer problem, is encouraged.
- Eligibility: Faculty members within their first faculty appointment and senior-level trainees (e.g. senior post-doctoral fellows without faculty rank of assistant professor) who have well-developed plans for preparing a national cancer research development application (e.g. NIH K-award or equivalent) may apply.
- Pilot Project Awards – Four pilot project proposals worth $50,000 will be selected for funding, with two focusing on disparities research and two focusing on molecular-based translational research. Proposals including investigators from two or more disciplines (e.g., clinical research and basic science) will be given highest priority. Awards include the Schnitzer Investment Corp Award and the NW Heart of Gold Award.
- Eligibility: OHSU investigators at the rank of assistant professor or higher, and Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research investigators may apply. Pilot grants are intended to support new and innovative projects. Projects may be an extension of other work, but cannot overlap with any funded project or be used as bridging support for projects for which funding has lapsed. Although preference will be given to young investigators with no other sources to fund these pilot projects, senior investigators studying new areas will also be considered.
Proposals for both funding opportunities are due August 30, 2010. See full announcement for more information about the submission process.
