IRB Notes: I was awarded stimulus funds. Now what?
In the latest edition of the IRB Notes, the Office of Integrity discusses the next steps after receiving stimulus funds – if you missed it, here it is again:
I was awarded some stimulus funds, now what?
Soon, stimulus dollars will be flowing freely to OHSU with the requirement that the research be conducted quickly. For all investigators, the more complete and correct your IRB submission is, the quicker review your study will receive. Certain studies require additional review outside of OHSU, such as international studies and studies involving sensitive information. To help facilitate quick review of your study, do some legwork as soon as possible. International studies require lots of collaboration with the foreign site. Start this ASAP and initiate local level IRB review as well. If you are conducting a study involving sensitive information that will need a certificate of confidentiality, state so in your IRB application and submit the application with the study. Finally, remember to use the human subject research in the future option, the get your funds released for activities that are preparatory to human subject research such as hiring staff, developing research tools and setting up labs.
