Synthesis of NIH Recovery Act Opportunities

Recovery-Act-related funding opportunities are being announced daily, and it’s hard to keep track of them. So we’ve put them in a handy table for you: the ARRA Economic Stimulus – NIH announcements document.  We will continue to update this table as new opportunities are released; check the Research News website for future updates.

  1. Since all of this ARRA stuff started, rumors and over generalizations have flown wildly.

One thing that seems to be correct is that while broad guidelines of intent were posted by NIH as

    http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-09-056.html

each institute apparently will utilize all or only part of these guidelines. This is the source of a lot of rumors and discrepancies floating around the hallways.

In the case of Heart, Lung and Blood, their institute guidelines surfaced first as a web posting that are substantially more restrictive and different than the general NIH posting suggests. See:

    http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/recovery/supplements.html

These NHLBI guidelines are quite narrow but already subject to changes since originally posted with the latest version bearing a March 20 amendment date. Speaking with my Program Officer suggests that NHLBI is not yet fixed on exactly how Supplements will work or the rules of eligibility.

The best general rule in all this may be to simply:

STAY TUNED to your program officer.
