Community Outreach Opportunity: Gray Middle School’s Annual Science Fair
Are you looking for experience doing community outreach and working with young scientists? The Office of Science Education Opportunities is looking for science fair project “reviewers” for Robert Gray Middle School’s annual Science Fair on Thursday, February 19, 2009. This year marks OHSU’s seventh year of support for Robert Gray.
OHSU’s involvement in the science fair provides an exciting opportunity for students to talk to and gain insight from real scientists. Robert Gray is in the OHSU neighborhood, just off Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway on SW 23rd. The student body is quite diverse – 25% of students receive Free & Reduced Lunch, many live in nearby public housing, and multiple languages are spoken at the school. Please join us for this fun and valuable science education outreach activity.
Graduate students, postdocs, researchers and faculty are all invited to serve as reviewers. Reviewers will interview 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students individually about their science projects. Evaluation will focus on how well each student uses the scientific process in his/her project or experiment. Reviewers will evaluate each project for a testable hypothesis, experiment design, data collection technique and presentation, and final conclusions.
