Dr. Oz at OHSU: The Details

As promised, here are some more details of Dr. Oz’s upcoming visit to OHSU.

On Monday July 16, we will be hosting 15-minute health screenings with Dr. Oz and dozens of other OHSU physicians/nurses and volunteers. The signup period for appointments has concluded but you can watch live coverage throughout the day on KATU.

The event at OHSU is just one of a series that the Dr. Oz Show is hosting across the country. The goal: To highlight the importance of regular checkups and the importance of preventive medicine. KATU-TV, the local affiliate that airs the show, is sponsoring the visit.

  1. I assume that this registers me for the 15 minute physical at Omsu on July 16th.

  2. Don,

Here’s the link where you can sign up.

OHSU is not handling the registration, the Dr. Oz Show is.

  3. I am an RN and have done Health Screenings for 2 years – are you looking for volunteers?

  4. Dr. Oz is a charlatan, hawking unnecessary supplements and promoting pseudoscience quackery like psychics and “energy healing.”

Not all physicians are philosophers, and some even have megalomania. Dr. Oz is an example of a money-seeking ego. Intelligent, but with no regard for scientific integrity.

He is dangerous, and associating OHSU with him drags this institution’s reputation down.

    Shame on whoever organized this.

“A decade ago, he was known for bringing reiki masters into the operating room do their mystical magical gestures during cardiac surgery, the better to channel the healing energy of the “universal source” into his patients before they went onto the cardiopulmonary bypass machine. His wife is also a reiki master, which might explain his particular fondness for this form of faith healing.”

  5. If you are an OHSU employee, the help would be appreciated. (Sorry, we’re not set up for non-OHSU healthcare volunteers for legal reasons). The contact at OHSU is Debbie Lamberger

  6. I would just like 2 tickets to the July 16, 2012 show…in the audience. How may I purchase them? Thank-you for any information.

  7. Clarification, the show is not coming to Oregon. OHSU is hosting a series of health screenings where Dr. Oz will take part. Apologies for any confusion we may have caused.

  8. Some pretty major criticisms. Please allow me to respond.

While I can’t confirm or deny the specifics of what this poster has said about Dr. Oz (I’ll allow readers to come to their own conclusions on these allegations based on their own research), I can tell you that OHSU agreed to take part in this event fully aware that some may not agree with Dr. Oz’s medical advice at times. Of course, most physicians would stir up a controvsy or two if they were on the air every weekday as there are many areas in health science where there is no consensus. That being said, partnering for an event should in no way suggest that OHSU agrees with everything Dr. Oz has ever said or vice-versa. However, what we do agree upon is the fact that many Americans are facing serious health issues and an event to highlight these issues and perhaps change behaviors is a good thing.

We see this event as a chance for OHSU to fulfill part of its mission in improving the health of Oregonians. In this case, we are helping people learn of health conditions they were unaware of previously. In addition, by doing this event in conjunction with the Dr. Oz Show, we saw the benefit of sharing important information about preventive medicine with a large audience.

I hope you and others will view the event for what it is and nothing more. Thanks for the chance to respond.

  9. Good for you! This will be a wake up call for the many people who don’t listen to family to make that change in their lives. We wfould look forward to Dr. Oz or any other physicians coming to speak in the future for those of us who have had recent screenings. There is always something positive to take away from this and is something I feel OHSU should be doing on an ongoing basis, much more often. We would especially appreciate speakers regarding PE’s and the little known facts that are out there for the public as it kills far too many unsuspecting people of all ages. Thanks!

  10. I have a very specific health problem that I have to follow a diet and medications that is contrary to a lot of typical medical advice how would my situation be handled for a program that looks like a one size fits all.

  11. Sounds like you are seeing a provider and getting advice based on your health needs – great to hear that.

This event is geared more towards people who aren’t proactively seeking care currently. Hopefully the event will highlight some issues that will result in better health for participants.

  12. My friend lost 40 lbs recently and it means so much
to her that Dr. Oz will be at OHSU; If he can talk to both of us, great – if not, can I give her my pre-registration consultation/physical, etc. spot? (To the best of my knowledge she is attending not having previously signed up online.) Thank You Very Much.

  13. The Dr. Oz Show is taking care of registration – so hard for me to speak for them – but we can certainly urge this to allow this
