Thinking Out Loud…About POLST

The POLST form

Last week we told you about an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association which is getting a lot of attention.

Why?

Because it’s about an Oregon creation that is spreading across the country: The POLST Program.

For those unfamiliar with POLST, it was created about 20 years ago by Oregon health providers seeking to ensure that patients with advanced illness have their health care wishes respected when it comes to life-extending interventions.

On Friday, the program was a subject on OPB’s Think Out Loud. Dr. Susan Tolle of the OHSU Center for Ethics in Health Care appeared on the show.

Here’s a link where you can listen in.
