OHSU is on the Air!

Northwest radio listeners will now have weekend access to OHSU’s nationally-recognized health care providers and researchers.

Starting this Saturday, September 10th, KXL Radio (101.1 FM on your dial) will begin airing a new show called “The OHSU Effect: Inside Health & Science at OHSU.”

The hour-long show begins at 8 a.m. each Saturday and will feature health care experts, researchers and other OHSU staff who work year-round to improve the health of all Oregonians.

Here are a few of our topics in the upcoming weeks:

  • Oregon’s obesity epidemic: What can we do to stop it?
  • Do I have a sleep disorder and how can I treat it?
  • Sports injuries: Preventing injuries and concerns about concussions
  • Eye checkups: When should I have my child’s eyes examined? What are the warning signs of vision loss in kids?
  • Improving women’s health
  • Alzheimer’s fears, the search for treatments and cures
  • Preventing head injuries
  • Packing a healthy school lunch that your kids will actually eat

We’ll  be posting each week’s segments here for easy listening. Also, check the link regularly for a list of upcoming experts.

While we are on the topic of future shows…we’re open for suggestions. If its health related, you can bet OHSU has an expert.

Happy listening!

  1. I think there is a need to hear about Global Health opportunities for students, faculty, and staff at OHSU. Dr. Peter Spencer at Global Health center would be a great resource and voice on this issue.

  2. Thanks – great idea!

  3. i would love to hear about advancements in Autism research.

  4. Great suggestion! We will definitely do a segment or two on that!

  5. Focus group research shows that people with mobility impairments (including employees) prefer not to come up to the scary hill for medical care because they have such trouble getting around and parking. Clearly the public is unaware that we have FREE valet parking available as well as volunteers whose specific job it is to guide people to where they need to go. Our volunteers are well prepared, trained to lower anxiety levels and are quite personable. Perhaps this topic could fill a few valuable minutes, and would bring more folks to the weekly Market as well.

  6. I agree – our volunteers deserve a little recognition!

and yes – the “maze of the hill” is a concern to many.

Let’s figure out a way to share this with the listeners!
