Library consortia have a long history of collective purchasing and resource sharing among members. The Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of 37 colleges, universities and community colleges, has set out to extend this vision and achieve a deeper level of collaboration that includes treating the combined collections of member institutions as one collection and exploring collaboration in technical services. The Alliance’s efforts to achieve these goals lead this diverse group of libraries to investigate new options in library management systems and ultimately select Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
As a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, the OHSU Library will implement the Ex Libris systems in the summer of 2014. Much more than a new library catalog, Primo will integrate the holdings of the OHSU Library with digital and print collections from around the world, allowing users to search for and acquire articles, books, photographs, videos, and much more.
The OHSU Library is also a member of the Portland Academic Health Libraries Consortium (PAHL). Founded in 1999, PAHL provides library collections and services to the faculty, staff, and students of the National College of Natural Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, and the University of Western States. We are happy to announce that the other members of PAHL will migrate to Alma and Primo along with the OHSU Library, ensuring a continued collaboration to meet the information needs of our community.
