Molecular Parasitology Journal Club, 2007-2008
Time: Wednesdays at Noon
Location: CROET 6501
Description: 1 credit, occuring monthly during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. Papers to be discussed include recent studies on parasites or parasitic diseases with an emphasis on the biochemical and molecular biology aspect of the research, including structure-function, host-parasite interaction, or biophysical chemistry.
Contact: Marie-Pierre Hasne
Guidelines for Presentations:
- Try to pick an outstanding/good paper: the science in these papers is usually strong and the consequences of the research are broad and more likely to be of interest for everyone. Plus really good science can be inspiring.
- Give background information. First it provides everybody with a common background and vocabulary and provides a much easier understanding of the data. Second it puts the paper in perspective with what is already known on the topic. The trick here is that it does not mean to give a long and boring introduction but rather to go over the specific "tools" everybody will need to have in mind to understand the paper. Don't assume that everybody in the room has those tools.
- You have an hour but you are going to be interrupted so it is usually wise to try to present for about 45 minutes.
- Have fun with it.
