American Academy of Dermatology
Illustrated, clearly written pamphlets for patient information on many dermatology topics.

American Academy of Family Physicians/familydoctor.org
Two hundred patient education handouts selected and approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Doctor's Page, The
A list of handouts AND web sites arranged by disease or health topic.  Includes RxList, a comprehensive drug index for consumers and health professionals.

CenterWatch/Listing of Newly Approved Drug Therapies
Lists drugs newly approved by the FDA and gives short description of each in non-technical language.

Healthopedia.com
Information on medications, diseases, symptoms, medical tests & procedures, and more.

Internet Mental Health
Mental health information by disease or topic, including American and European descriptions of disorders. Check "Booklet" subheading under each disorder for patient education handouts. Includes a Spanish translator program.

MedicineNet
A commercial site with an extensive section of patient education handouts written by physicians on diseases and treatments, written in a simple question and answer format. (See Diseases and Treatments under this link.)

Medline Plus, National Library of Medicine - Hispanic American Health
A source on statistics and some overviews of specific conditions, including "easy to read" topical handouts for a complete list, or "easy to read"+ (subject) for individual handouts.

Michigan Electronic Library/Disease and Condition Specific Resources
Pamphlets, articles and Web sites arranged by disease or topic.

National Cancer Institute
Includes descriptions of different types of cancer with staging, treatment and prognosis, written specifically for patients (PDQ: Physician's Data Query).

A web site from the United States government including links to online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, support and self-help groups, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public.

Pregnancy Calendar, Yahoo
Constructs a calendar detailing the development of a baby, based on user input about time of conception, etc. You must register with Yahoo! to use.

McKinley Health Center Health Information
Over 300 patient education handouts prepared by the professional staff of this student health service at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Some are getting dated, but useful for topics that do not change frequently.
 
Nutrition Navigator
Tufts University School of Nutrition Science and Policy rates content and usability, and provides reviews of nutrition Web sites.
 
Oregon Health & Science University's Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department
Short descriptions of facial plastic and reconstructive procedures offered by Oregon Health & Science University facial and plastic surgeons.

The Ohio State University Medical Center
A large collection of illustrated pamphlets including large print items.

The Self-Help Sourcebook Online
A searchable database that includes information on approximately 700+ national and demonstrational model self-help support groups, ideas for starting groups, and opportunities to link with others to develop needed new national or international groups.

Mi Pediatria
A pediatric site from Mexico which includes a substantial section of handouts on themes of interest to parents on development, congenital and chronic illnesses, a newsletter written by specialists from a children's hospital, links to other sources of information in Spanish and English. The site includes a search engine, and an "ask an expert" section.
 
National Cancer Institute CancerNet
Patient versions of cancer information and treatment sheets on specific types of cancer.

National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute
Bilingual booklets on cardiovascular risk factors and prevention.

National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities

National Center for Farmworker Health, Bilingual Patient Education Materials
A selection of well-illustrated low literacy, education materials in English and Spanish developed by this national center. These materials may be printed and used free of charge.

Ethnomed
Contains medical and cultural information on a variety of ethnic groups in order to assist providers in bridging language and cultural barriers during medical visits. It is designed to be used quickly by providers before seeing a patient. Patient education materials section (in languages other than English) is small but developing.
 
Healthy Roads Media
Funded by the National Library of Medicine, this site provides health information in several languages, including Russian, Somali, Bosnian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Transcultural and Multicultural Health Links
An annotated, selected list of references to diversity specific links to health information for patients and providers.
